Now, this applies to physical appearance, I E skin, hair and eye color, build, etc, voice, I E accent and or native language, culture, I E preferences in food, music, art, literature, etc and also to a culture's overall norms, beliefs and ideals. For example. I am especially drawn to Ireish, Italian, British, Russian and Scottish accents. However my preferences for physical appearance run more towards, Italian, Ireish, Chinese, Japanese and American. When it comes to culture I especially like British, Ireish, Indian, Japanese, Italian, French and Native American. And when it comes down to the views and practices of a culture I tend to relate to French, Ireish, British and Native American culture. Therefore, my strongest pull is towards men who
are British, Ireish or Italian. This should get some interesting results.

Well now. This board makes me more than a little proud to be a home grown, real Irish potato through and through! I never realised the accent was such a biggy with people. I personally think my accent's abominably awful, just because it IS Irish! I'm glad that most of you like it. I do love my culture though, and am so glad that I had the privilage to be brought up in an Irish family where music, story telling, and lots of unrestrained love were the norms!

As far as it goes for me, I love the Canadian accent, but my biggy is Australians or those from New Zealand. The way they talk is so nice! All cultures I love.

Post 30 by SensuallyNaturallyLiving4Today (LivingLifeAndLovingItToo) on Thursday, 08-Nov-2007 17:00:59

Over time the British and Australian accents have lost some of their sway over me, as has the physical type of the Asian, Japanese and Chinese. Ireish still makes my knees weak and my heart race and I am still intreagued by Russians, Scotts and Germans although Greek men have grown considerably in my preferences as of late. Another culture to throw into the mix is that of subcultures, I.E. goths, hippies, gamers, geeks, nerds, military types, outdoorsey types, the preppy set, etc. Personally I find the gamers and geeks attractive if they have a few outside interests and also the hippies or outdoorsey types if they don't take it to the extreme. I've never really been much into the military man or the goth, the biker or the jock as a life partner, but for an occational roll play I'm all for acting out all sorts of cultures and subcultures for creative and adventurous effect.

Post 31 by Eleni21 (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Monday, 03-Dec-2007 8:57:52

Well, first of all, I would never date outside my race. I'm fine with other people doing it, it's just a personal preference for me. So the guy would have to be white. Yes, you guys know my answer by now. *smile* Greek all the way. I love the accent, the language, the music (especially the really older stufff), the food, the history, the culture itself. I love sharing my views with my partner, especially during patriotic celebrations, times of tragety (like the fires this summer) or even when it comes to the news, sports or politics. We may have different ideas, but we love the same country etc. I also love smokers, and many Greeks are known for their cigarettes and coffee, though my boyfriend only likes the latter. The only thing that would turn me off is an extremely religious man if he tried to push his faith on me without respecting me, which has never happened. Going along with that would be the idea of no sex before marriage and women being submissive. But although my boyfriend is older (62) and straight from Greece, he has none of those beliefs, thank the gods, and we get along wonderfully. Oh, I forgot looks! I can't see them, but the more Greek a guy looks, the more attractive to me. Furthermore, if I ever decided to have children, I would definitely want them to have Greek blood and to be born there (even if we didn't wind up moving there) so having a Greek partner for the longerm is kind of necessary.

I would say the white americans and any other capitalistic cultures in other countries. Yes, I am a bit prejudice against African American manners. They just... don't appeal to me. It doesn't seem proper at all. I have not met too many proper African Americans. Okay, a few here and there, they ones that I like act very white, but in general, no.

I'll drag this dead as corpse of a board out of the grave to say one, perhaps unimportant thing:
Jessie, loves, Italianos!
Australians are also very attractive in their views (happy-go-lucky most of em), and I love my Spanish men. Not Mexicans born in America with that tacky accent I tend to hear around where I live, I mean straight from Spane. There's a very big difference between the 2. Mexicans are a newer culture from Mexico, Spanish are Spaniards from the country of Spane. I'm half Spanish. I seem to like straight-from-Europ men, for example, Italians. I'd go for them over anyone else in any aspect of themselves any day. And, again, I'm talking straight from Italy. Know Jersey shore cocky sons of bitches.

I personally can't tell the difference between someone from Alberta to someone from Oregon or Washington.
As for myself, I really love Italian accents, as well as the smooth New Yorker accent from the Bronx or Brooklyn. I don't know what it is, I guess I got it from watching scarface too many times.

Post 49 by jessmonsilva (Taking over the boards, one topic at a time.) on Wednesday, 25-May-2011 7:14:32

so yeah I was about to clarify the whole canadian thing since canadians are pretty generalized and I've been to canada and understand now they have just as many accent differences as the US. Me for example, I really like the people that come from around Nova Scotia and Prince Edward. I also really really love the newfoundland accent I guess cuz it sounds more Irish than anything else. The people from toronto are ok too I suppose which is where I stayed when I was there. On a different note I am one of the weird ones but I find german accents kind of nice as well. Not so much the language as their language always sounds so angry but I don't know when I hear a german trying to learn to speak english, it's pretty nice.

Post 62 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Thursday, 18-Oct-2012 2:56:26

This is a good topic, I'm surprised I didn't see it before.
Well, as for me, British and Australian accents are nice. So is the accent that some black people have, if their ghetto speak doesn't take over it, that is. But if they speak properly, some black men have some seriously deep, smooth and sexy voices. As for the whole subculture thing, I'm not sure if this counts, but I've always wanted to date a musician, particularly a singer. Usually, singers have expressive, poetic speaking voices. Being one myself, I am often told that my speaking voice is more expressive than average. But having someone sing to me in the right setting would make me crazy. Plus, a lot of musicians have this mystique surrounding them, and that's a lot of what attracts me to a person in the first place, learning to crack their code so to speak. Geeks can be charming in a way that totally eludes them, as they're usually shrouded in insecurity. Ok, now I just sound weird, so I'll stop. Lol.

Post 63 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Saturday, 20-Oct-2012 13:09:58

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I absolutely can't stand the southern drawl. it's one of the most unattractive sounds I've ever heard.
as for accents/cultures I love, I can't say I have a preference. people are just people to me, and I'm sure most can be appreciated/liked for one reason or another.

Post 65 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Sunday, 21-Oct-2012 16:52:54

I can agree about the southern drawl when it's really thick. Then it actually makes peoplehard to uderstad. But when a girl's got just a hint of it it can be really sexy. And then the Scottish accent's one of my favorites along with the Irish one since they, well I don't know. I guess the best way to say it is they tickle. LOL. LOL.

Post 66 by Jack Off Jill (why the hell am I posting in the first place?) on Monday, 29-Oct-2012 15:09:26

Post 67 by michellemhs (Generic Zoner) on Tuesday, 10-Sep-2013 2:42:01

Post 68 by Meglet (I just keep on posting!) on Tuesday, 10-Sep-2013 8:08:40

Polish, hmm? You should come live in my city then. There's an entire cab company seemingly made up solely of Polish gentlemen. :)

I, too, am one of those Canadians who doesn't really know what you guys are talking about by the Canadian accent. Personally I consider my accent sort of generic American, though others tell me I do have an accent which sounds Canadian. So I dunno. The only truly unique Canadian accents I can think of are those in the East, such as in Newfoundland or PEI.

I like a light southern drawl provided it's just that, light. I also like some British and Scottish accents depending on where the person comes from. Irish is hit and miss for me; sometimes I love it and sometimes it bugs hell out of me, again it depends where the person's from. The inflection gets too samy after awhile, with the little uptilt on the end of every sentence. I agree that Newfies are a nice compromise though!
I'm another one of those weirdos who thinks the German accent can be kind of nice. I'm not particularly attracted to Australians; they just make me think of safaris and crocks. lol

I used to live in Minneapolis and I met some Natives there whose accents were kinda interesting. It's somewhat hard to describe though, but there was something appealing about it.

It's the first thing that turns me on about a person; voice to me is the be-all/end-all. Looks aren't the first thing I notice because I'm not visual. In turn, if someone has what to me is either an annoying or repulsive voice, I don't care what they look like; they turn me off.

Post 80 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Thursday, 26-Sep-2013 11:23:13

You know, in the interest of being humane, I am disturbed by this. I also am one who can be turned on or off by a voice. So, looks one can change. I can run, do push-ups, and a myriad other things to keep myself trim. Maybe in my 40s it wouldn't be as trim with a six-pack as many of you all, but trim nonetheless. But nobody can change their voice. I don't believe looks are shallow. Senses are shallow, because we are shallow. But then again, what is deep, and why does it really matter?
But yes, to the person who asked. If you have some sight left, sight is a powerful sense. So powerful in fact, that we in technology cannot rightly synthesize it the way even a visually impaired person understands it. We can do this with sound just fine. But you are taking in thousands upon thousands of images per second. So when you look at someone, you think it's a glance, but it's really a brain equivalent of thousands of frames, thousands of shots with a camera, and your brain filling in the gaps. So it makes perfect and logical sense that with sight you would be wholly incapable of not reacting to what you see.
If you've ever been to a meeting at work, where there's a spot on the carpet, you'll know what I mean. The best sales pitch may be made, the biggest money maker, or most amazing innovation may be in front of you, but you will be helpless to that ugly spot on the back of the chair. So helpless, in fact, that you're at that point little more than a bird or a mouse being mesmerized by a snake.
This is in part why we coddle and accept overt outbursts about visual blemishes, in ways we normally would not allow in polite society, while people don't make those same types of exceptions for outbursts about sounds someone hears. That is because we assume people are helpless to their visual impulses. Again, little more than a rat or a mouse or a bird within striking distance of a snake. That's not morality, that is simple biology which you cannot escape. With that many thousands of images per second, I, also would be drawn to the visual first. No human or other life form is an exception to that.
But for those of us who go without that sense, the voice is the next attraction since sound waves also are pretty pervasive, if a lot slower and a lot less digital.
Now I know it's possible to overcome if one wants, but it takes conditioning. I know people who went through Basic in the military, and part of their training was to lay in the sand, not moving, while sand fleas crawled over them and bit them. That was conditioning to be able to remain in a single position regardless of sensory impact and presumably avoid being spotted by the enemy. In order for them to do this, they have to fight an immense amount of biology, in ways only a human being can. But they're not the norm, they're the exception.
Same goes with light-based sensory input, which is at least as enormous as foll-body sensory input like guys laying in the sand.
Anyway hope that clarifies some of why the voice might be so attractive to some of us. Even if your vision is impaired, and the images to some extent distorted, you are still confronted with those thousands of images per second. I may be a lifer, a total, as they call it, but that means I've had a lifetime to observe people's reactions to things, and that much time to also gain knowledge about what is being contended with.
This isn't a slight on people who can see, or those who can't, it's just a pragmatic analysis of the situation.

agrees with Jessee, but about guys. now, that isn't to say that all sorts of southern accents are nice to listen to. it's only a very fine line.i'm really into native american culture, language, as i am cherokee.also i like the irish accent and culture, having a bit of that in my blood as well. i really like the scottish accent for things like my screen reader and that, and as for appearances, i can't really anser that part of the question. not really sure.

I wish Native American languages were more mainstream. I've been glad I have been able to hear Welsh online, which is closer to my ancestral heritage, but would love to hear what Pre-Christian / pre-Roman languages sounded like.

I'm with the person who says hearing a person's voice that I think sounds ugly, totally turns me off.

I say the latino males turn me on. Specially the way they talk, and when they talk to you in spanish when they're romancing you. How do I know? This black woman was with one for 3 years.

LOL. I agree with the southern accent.
The Midwestern accent also gets to me for some reason, and the Australian.
I know about the Midwestern thing because I've dated several people from the mmidwest.
Never dated a southerner though.
